Africa Eco Race
11 Jan 2016
Toyo Tire sponsored Opel Dakar Team successfully concluded the Africa Eco Race yesterday.
The Africa Eco race starts in France and ends in the city of Dakar, following a route similar to the Dakar race before security concerns caused it to switch to South America.
A new specification of Toyo Tires Open country M/T-R, suitable for amateur competitors, was tested during the race. However, to give the tires as hard a test as possible, the tires were fitted to the race car of professional driver Balázs Szalay. After nearly 6.000 km of racing, the Opel Mokka race car crossed the finish line yesterday in 13th place having completed the toughest testing possible in uncompromising climate and terrain conditions.
235/85 R16 open Country M/T-R tires were used on the car throughout the race and despite some technical problems with the car, the tires were able to handle the power and aggressive driving style of a serious racer, to carry the car to the famed pink lake at Dakar in Senegal. Conditions of use for this test were considerably harder than anticipated for the typical user but despite this, the tires were able to deal with everything thrown at them and performed well across a range of different terrains.
Balázs will be racing his Opel Mokka in two FIA World Cross Country races this year as well as the Silk way rally so Toyo Tires will be seen by a wide range of off road race enthusiasts across Europe in 2016.
