On Saturday, June 17, Toyo Tires with Ring Racing, acheived a podium finish in the Nürburgting Langstrecken-Serie race, finishing second in class.
The team qualified fourth and were optimistic that they could improve on their start position in the Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2023. Heiko Tönges took the start in car number 170 with Michael Tischner taking over for the middle stint and Uwe Kleen bringing it home for the finish. As well as his deep experience on the Nordschleife, Kleen is the team principal for Toyo Tires with Ring Racing team.
Conditions on the track were hard on the competitors with temepartures exceeding 400C experienced. Competitors, affected by the excessive track temperature were slowing but the Toyota GR Supra, fitted with Proxes Slicks (Nürburgring spec) was able to take advantage and maintain its pace. Leading the race for the final stages, Kleen was to lose out to the BMW M4 of Walkenhorst Motorsport after an epic duel on the final straight. After four hours of racing, first and second place were split by just 2.299 seconds.
The next Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie round, the fifth round of this years championship, will take place on Saturday, July 8. Toyo Tires with Ring Racing will be back, challenging again for the win.
