1st in Class at Pharaons
9 Oct 2012
Regis Delahaye wins the final stage of the Pharaons Rallye, winning his class and taking second place overall.
After an epic battle through the Egyptian sand, Regis Delahaye and co-pilot Alex Winocq, finished the FIA Rallye des Pharaons with a win in the final stage propelling them to first in their class and second overall in the race. Their MD buggy used a mixture of Toyo's Open Country M/T tires in sizes 35x13.5 R 15 and 13x10.5 R 15
The team had to overcome adversity on the way, however, with major mechanical problems on stage five. Just a few hundred metres from the finish line and a certain stage victory, both axles broke simultaneously, gifting the stage win to Miroslav Zapletal. Khalifa Al-Mutawei, second in the stage, 15 mins behind Delahaye, stopped to make sure that Regis and Alex were OK before finishing the race. The MD buggy had to be towed over the line later by the Toyoya of Jun Mitsuhashi.
A desperately unlucky penalty of one hour was incurred after their time card was lost meaning they were out of contention for the overall win which was taken by Al-Mutawei in his X-Raid Mini.
Their barnstorming performance in the final stage left Regis and Alex finishing 14 minutes ahead of third place in the overall standings.
