4th round of DVV Trofee in Essen

More than 10.000 spectators watch Mathieuw van der Poel consolidate his lead in the DVV Trofee while world champion is out at a training camp.
The fourth run of the DVV Verzekeringen Trofee took place in Essen (BE) on 9th of December. The Cyclocross event was visited by more than 10.000 spectators.
In the mens competition, Mathieuw van der Poel was again the man-to-beat. Laurens Sweeck stayed with him till the 4th round but after that van der Poel took the lead of the race. Wout Van Aert, a Belgian rider, was absent this race as he was still at a training camp in Spain. Laurens Sweeck finished 2nd, 23 seconds behind van der Poel. 3rd place was for Toon Aerts, he finished 42 seconds later than Mathieuw van der Poel. Van der Poel remains the leader in the championship.
Despite strong competition from American rider Katie Compton and the Belgian Nikkie Brammeier, Sanne Cant finished 1st on Saturday. Nikkie Brammeier came out 2nd, the leader over the women's championship, Katie Compton, finished 3rd.
The next race of the DVV Verzekeringen Trofee takes place on December 16th in Antwerpen, Belgium.
