Challenge for driver and tires

TOYO TIRES brand ambassador Akira Miura is gearing up for his next major off-road challenge in the second round of the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC). The “BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal” will take place from March 17 to 22 in Portugal and Spain. This event marks Miura’s first W2RC appearance of the season, where he will compete with TOYOTA Gazoo Racing W2RC in the top “Ultimate” category. At his side in the cockpit of the Toyota DKR GR Hilux: experienced co-driver and desert specialist Armand Monleón.

The World Rally-Raid Championship is the world’s leading off-road rally series, held under the regulations of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) and FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme). The second round in Portugal and Spain consists of five stages with a total distance of around 2,200 kilometers, including more than 1,300 kilometers of timed special stages.

Compared with the previous edition, the route now features more sandy sections in hilly terrain as well as fast passages along the Atlantic coast. High speeds on gravel tracks, deep sand and harsh, rocky ground push drivers, vehicles and tires to their limits. For this event, TOYO TIRES equips the Toyota DKR GR Hilux with specially tuned OPEN COUNTRY M/T-R off-road tires developed for rally-raid competition.
