Autonomous Drift Driving Project succesful in track test
14 Feb 2022
The Toyota Research Institute (TRI) has successfully had an autonomous car drift around various obstacles on a race track using Toyo Tires' Proxes Sport tyres: This is a milestone in the development of road safety.
The TRI already announced the Autonomous Drift Driving Project in 2019. The objective of the project is to allow vehicles to drift autonomously and in a controlled manner around various obstacles. In the future, this technology should help prevent accidents caused by sudden obstacles or changes in the road surface, such as black ice. Recently, the project has successfully passed a milestone: On a race track in California, a programmed car autonomously drifted around various obstacles positioned on the track.
Of course, advanced tires are needed for the success of such a groundbreaking and demanding project. That's why the TRI chose Toyo Tires' Proxes Sport, the tyre for high steering precision and excellent grip in both wet and dry conditions.
Toyo Tires is pleased to be part of road safety development, so that in the future, drivers can be supported by intelligent solutions with the skills of professional racing drivers to create safer driving situations.
