EVR's TOYO TIRES Trophy Truck wins stage one of the 24H Off Road of Morocco and leads the Rally
Eric Vigouroux Racing in their TOYO TIRES Trophy Truck have won stage one of the 24H Off Road of Morocco and lead the Rally. Eric and co-driver Alexandre Winocq took the stage win over a lap ahead of their nearest rivals.
In winning the race, Eric also set the fastest lap. With a blistering 29minutes, 11.56 seconds circuit of the 36,8km course, their time was nearly two minutes faster than the next quickest car. According to team principal Eric Vigouroux, their 37x13.5 R17 Open Country M/TR tires proved to be one of the deciding factors giving superb off road performance whilst also being durable enough to last the entire six hours of the stage without puncturing or wearing out.
The 24Hours Off Road of Morocco is a new rally for 2010, organized by the same company who produce the 24Hours Off Road of France, a race Eric won in 2001. Adding variety and challenge to the Morocco event, the 24 hours are split into 4 six hour stints, taking place on four courses, each near a different city. Having won in Marrakech, Eric will race in Erfoud tomorrow, May 26, Zagora on the 27th and Ouarzazate on the 28th.
The use of four different courses presents a wider range of terrain and additional challenges to the crews to set up the car for each stage. Over the four stages Eric and Alex will have to face every type of course Morocco has to offer, including stones, camel grass, sand dunes and more. Tomorrow course at Erfoud is the shortest at 19,2km while Friday’s Ouarzazate finale is the longest at 39,5km.
Today Eric has a 512km liason east from Marrakech to Erfoud near the Algerian border where the race recommences at 10.00GMT on Wednesday May 26. Expect to see a battling performance from Eric and Alexandre right up to the scheduled finish at 18.00GMT to maintain their lead.
