EV Racing Win SS2 in Morocco

15 May 2012

Victory in the Ouarazazate stage of the 24 heures tout terrain

Eric Vigouroux and co-pilot Alex Winocq have won the second stage of the 24 hours off road race of Morocco. Their Chevrolet Trophy Truck, equipped with Toyo Tires Open Country M/TR tires finished 19 minutes, 55 seconds ahead of second placed Pascale Tomasse in his Optimus buggy.

Critically, after their problematic start in the first stage, EV Racing finished 27 minutes, 32 seconds ahead of the reigning title holder and overall leader Schlesser in third, reducing his overall lead to just 9 minutes, 11 seconds.

A vapour lock in the fuel system caused by the unexpected heat in the first stage at Marrakesh cost EV Racing dearly. Having to stop twice to effect temporary repairs left the Toyo Tires Trophy Truck trailing in 5th place, 36 minutes, 43 seconds behind Schlesser after stage one. An additional radiator installed overnight to cool the fuel system seems to have cured the problem and allowed EV Racing to pull back an extraordinary amount of time.

Part of their advantage comes from their Toyo Tires. Many competitors were forced to stop to change tires in the challenging terrain but EV racing on their 37x13.5 R17 Open Country M/TR tires drove to the finish without having to worry about tire reliability.

Todays stage, at Ouled Driss promises another six gruelling hours. Today is also co-pilot Alex's birthday and he will be hoping for a win by the end of the stage although it will be no gift since the team will need to work hard to earn it.
