Full speed into the 5th round of the UK RX-Championships
22 Aug 2019
It's gonna be tight at the top. After the exciting races at the Pembrey Circuit in South Wales, Julian Godfrey and Derek Tohill are level on points at the Toyo Tires UK British Rallycross Championships. After the fourth round it is mid-season – and thus still everything is possible next weekend at the 5th round in Lydden Hill.
The third and fourth laps at the Toyo Tires UK British Rallycross Championships could not have been more exciting. The Champion, Julian Godfrey, converted the pole position of his Ford Fiesta Supercar into a first place in the third lap. His challenger Tohill used the opportunity in the fourth race to take the lead and delivered a consistently strong performance. With Tohills second win of the season, Derek Tohill and Julian Godfrey ended up with level points.
Both delivered a merciless race and from time to time also left the fair play behind. Tohill could have secured second place on the podium but lost it with an 8-second penalty for committing a foul while overtaking.
For S1600 Champion Tristan Ovender it looks almost like a march-through in the Supernationals class. He started undefeated into the double race and dominated the third round, which extended his points advantage. On the wet track of the fourth round he fought a battle with his rival Paige Bellerby. This battle could not lead to an end on that day, because Bellerby retired after contact. Third place of S1600-class that day went to Craig Lomax.
In the Junior RX class there were also surprising moments, for example when the Latvian pilot Roberts Vitols conquered the course in the fastest time in the qualifying sessions. He also dominated the third lap in first place and finished two places ahead of the points leading Luke Constantine.
The fifth round in Great Britain promises action when the battles for places and points continue. On August 26 in Lydden Hill it's all about who can take the lead with his supercar. You should also keep an eye on Roger Thomas, who is on the track in his Ford Fiesta. The field in the junior class will also be remixed. So it's worth securing one of the last tickets for the race or watching the live stream on barctv.net.
